Transitions

Sandy and Fred (not their real names) are planning a move from their 3200 square foot home to a 1900 square foot condo.  They’ve raised their kids in this home, and have acquired an impressive collection of items from beautiful antiques and funky art (they love southwestern pieces) to 9 different sets of towels (not all of which match) to boxes of comic books and cheerleading accessories belonging to their children when they were in high school.  The home is lovely and welcoming, if a bit cluttered and worn.  Sandy recently had back surgery, and, while still active, isn’t quite up to facing all that needs to be done, and Fred is planning retirement shortly but is still working full time.

This is where a fresh space comes in.  Fred and Sandy are typical of people who are competent and capable, but just need a hand in sorting through years of stuff that has accumulated in the natural progression of life.

I can assist with…

  • making decisions about items that truly have importance to you
  • donating and gifting useful items to others
  • storing and preserving items
  • finding places for consignment and resale
  • sorting through collections, functional and decorative pieces, as well as everyday items such as dishes, bedding, books, etc.
  • packing, moving and settling in to your new place

Taking Fred and Sandy from their current home to theiWhat to Expect when working with Professional Organizersr new home can be a process that takes a few weeks to several months, depending on how quickly they want to move.  We can start out slowly by organizing and streamlining what they’ve got, then stage the home when they are ready to sell.  By having things packed and knowing what they want to keep, and what they don’t, makes the whole process much less stressful and much more manageable.

You may need a professional organizer if…
  • you have a child going off to college
  • you have a child graduating from college (and moving back in with you)
  • you have an older relative downsizing, or moving to a retirement community
  • you've recently been married or divorced
  • you've recently added to your family through birth or adoption or blending
  • you've moved into a different home, or are thinking about it
  • you are retiring and thinking about the future
  • you've had an illness… or anything else that has thrown a glitch into your normal routines and systems.

I’ve worked with seniors, college students, empty nesters and busy professionals who just need an ear, and a helping hand to move on to the next stage.

Planning ahead is the smart thing to do… and what I do best.

March 1, 2007… I would like to express my sincerest thanks for the thoughts and prayers from my friends, family, clients and business acquaintances during my recent, and successful, battle with thyroid cancer. Many have asked how I knew I had it. Well, I didn’t, but I knew something wasn’t quite right when I kept feeling an odd pressure in my throat. So, I offer my greatest gratitude to Dory Turney at Dr. Frank Caprio’s office with Heritage Medical Associates for hounding me to get in for an ultrasound, which resulted in finding nodules on my thyroid. Special thanks also to Dr. Rekha Pandula, my endocrinologist, and Dr. Kathleen Crews Williams, my surgeon. My recent scan, after my radiation therapy, showed that the cancer should be eradicated from any thyroid cells and lymph nodes. Now, it’s a matter of regaining my strength and stamina. The hardest part for me has been accepting the help and support of others, which is difficult for someone like me. I just want these people to know how much they are appreciated, and how much they helped me get through this. And for anyone who doesn’t feel quite right… please have it checked out, even if you are the one who is always taking care of everyone else—take care of yourself first!
