Wow, this was a truly quality post. In theory I'd like to write like this too - taking time and real effort to make a good post... but what can I say... I procrastinate alot and in no way seem to get something done.

Hi, Wonderful write-up and post! My group is involved in style and design and particularly the design and style in the near future. Are you gonna be submitting any specific posts on potential future ideas and design and style? Most of us always look forward with each ten years and next decide to repeat design ideas on the past decades including the fifties and also 1970's just before shifting to some innovative design and style. European countries and the North america manage to clone the actual design of days gone by, designed for financial value before seeking much more leading edge styles for the future. Your opinions please.Respect Mark

I'm in Franklin, and I know exactly which tile you are talking about. The green can look really great with a deco theme if you can pull it off. If the tile doesn't go all the way up the ceiling, you can maybe do this sort of built in above it as a little alcove, and frame it out. Mini-louvered doors can look really cute or just as a niche with bins.
We also added a medicine cabinet over the sink with storage from Rejuvinations online. It has the same look as the shelves.
Personally I wouldn't be afraid to cut out some of the tile to get storage.
We did the same sort of shelf in my office for books - went into the wall. It's floor to ceiling and only sticks out about an inch or two.
Thanks for the comments!

Thanks Alyson for the comment - you can do this sort of thing in a small way or a larger version like mine.
If you can't do built ins into the wall, you can always go vertical, as well as create a more finished look with unfinished bookcases and "building" them in by attaching them to the wall and adding trim around them. I'll be doing a post about this in a while so keep an eye out!

This is such a great idea. My roommate and I share a bathroom that is huge, but has no storage space. We've used really inexpensive shelving and cubbies to hide things away.

Thanks for the comments - and having a handy hubby is definitely a plus!
And Janet - I have learned (from sad experience) to always take before photos - even if I don't know for sure that they will actually BE before photos!

Nice job! We faced a similar challenge several years ago. The bathroom was so small that you couldn't open the vanity cabinet without the door hitting the tub. There was a 2nd bathroom downstairs with a Jacuzzi tub, so we removed the tub in the main bathroom and replaced it with a shower stall and pantry-style cabinet to hold all our towels and other necessities. We also removed the vanity and sink, replacing them with a pedestal sink, which took up less room and was more esthetically pleasing. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures.

Oh how I wish I had a handy hubby. That looks amazing and so functional. Just goes to show you that you don't need a lot of space to create a lot of storage.

Thanks for sharing!
